Maps & Directions

The School of Biology is found on the University of Nottingham campus. Detailed directions to Nottingham University can be found here: Campus Maps . The Centre for Genetics and Genomics is in the Medical School, which is part of the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC).

From Nottingham City Centre

From the Broadmarsh bus station (about 250 metres north of the railway station) you can catch various Trent and Barton buses that go past the University and the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC). From Nottingham city centre you can catch Nottingham City Transport buses. Alternatively, there are taxi ranks adjacent to the railway and bus stations.

From East Midlands Airport

Take Trent and Barton Rainbow 5b or Skylink bus to the city centre. Buses leave from outside the Airport Arrivals hall, and stop outside the QMC main entrance (ask the Skylink driver to drop you at the QMC). You can also walk to the taxi rank on the terminal forecourt and take a direct taxi to the University. The cost of a one-way taxi journey is around £20.

From the M1 Motorway

Leave motorway at Junction 25 to join the A52 to Nottingham. Continue along the A52 (Derby Road) to the University.

Parking is very limited at both the Medical School and University Park Campus. See the QMC site  for car parking details.

How to find the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC)

The Centre for Genetics and Genomics is part of the Medical School, which is situated in the Queen’s Medical Centre. This is located across the road from University Park Campus, on the eastern side of the A52 (Clifton Boulevard). Access to the Medical School and the QMC is via a pedestrian footbridge.

We recommend that you enter the QMC by the Medical School entrance. Being a hospital, the QMC is very confusing, and you are very likely to get lost if you enter by any other entrance. If you are coming by taxi, insist that they drop you at the Medical School entrance. If you are coming by bus, you can get off on University Park Campus and take the pedestrian footbridge to the Medical School. Alternatively, you can get off at the QMC main entrance and walk around the outside of the hospital to the Medical School entrance.

How to find the Institute of Genetics

If you have walked around the outside of the QMC or have arrived by taxi, you will be on A floor of the Medical School. If you have entered the Medical School by the footbridge, you will be on B floor. The Centre for Genetics and Genomicsis located on floors C and D of the Medical School.

For location of the Medical School, see the University of Nottingham, Univeristy Park campus map  (pdf).
