Old Norse and Icelandic Studies 

Benedikz Collection of Icelandic Literature - A gift to the University of Nottingham by the family of Eiríkur Benedikz. 

Bibliography of Saga Translations - The bibliography aims to include translations of all Old-Icelandic literature: Eddic poetry, sagas of Icelanders, þættir, kings’ sagas, bishops’ sagas, contemporary sagas, legendary sagas, and romances. 

Dokumentasjonsprosjektet - Digitisation of many Norwegian resources, including Fritzner's dictionary.

EGIL - Electronic Gateway for Icelandic Literature - A gateway with direct links to the major libraries with Old Norse-Icelandic holdings, carefully-selected relevant websites and some digitised material.

Fornaldarsögur Norðurlanda - Available online.

Germanic Lexicon Project - Old Icelandic dictionaries and grammars available online.

Icelandic Online - A free online course in Modern Icelandic.

Medieval Nordic Text Archive - An umbrella for various digitisation projects. It now has a selection of Old Icelandic, Old Norwegian and Old Swedish electronic texts in facsimile, diplomatic or normalised form and more will be added.

Proverbs - A concordance to proverbs in Old Icelandic literature.

Richard and Margaret Beck Trust - Icelandic activities at the University of Victoria, B.C.

Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middle Ages - An international collaborative project to re-edit the corpus of skaldic verse.

Stofnun Árna Magnússonar - The premier collection of Icelandic manuscripts, in Reykjavík. Originally, most of these manuscripts were housed in Copenhagen, and some still are, at Den Arnamagnæanske Samling.

Stories For All Time - A research project on the Icelandic fornaldarsögur.

Danske runeindskrifter - A database of Danish inscriptions.

English Dictionary of Runic Inscriptions in the Younger Futhark - An ongoing project at Nottingham.

Futhark - An international journal of runic studies.

Jan Owe's runic pages - News and links, including an online version of his Svensk Runbibliografi. In Swedish.

News about Runes - Online version of Nytt om runer, with additional information and useful bibliographies. Mostly in English.

Nordiskt runnamnslexikon - A downloadable dictionary of proper names in Scandinavian runic inscriptions. Instructions in Swedish.

Riksantikvarieämbetet - the Swedish National Board of Antiquities' runological division. In Swedish.

Runer og mønter - A blog about new finds of runes and coins from the Danish National Museum.

Runes, Monuments and Memorial Carvings - An international research network, especially for students and early career researchers.

Samnordisk runtextdatabas - Download a nearly-complete database of Scandinavian runic inscriptions. Instructions in Swedish, though the database is also available in English.

Svenskt runordsregister - Third, revised edition (2006) of Lena Peterson's word index to the Swedish Viking Age inscriptions, excluding personal names. In Swedish.

Uppsala runforum - Very useful for links, online resources and information about forthcoming events.

There are also various sites run by amateur enthusiasts. Many of these are actually quite good, and have useful collections of photographs, but non-academic sites should always be used with caution. The following have been found useful: In Sweden, Christer Hamp's Gamla runinskrifter, and Staffan Blixt's Runstenar och runor, and in Denmark, Runestene.dk (a practical guide to Danish rune stones), and Lars Larsen's blog about looking for rune stones.

CELT - Corpus of Electronic Texts - A wide-ranging 'online resource for Irish history, literature and politics' at the University of Cork. Includes electronic versions of both the originals and English translations of Irish annals and other material relevant to Viking studies.

The Scottish Society for Northern Studies - Has regular meetings and conferences, and publishes the journal Northern Studies. It also offers an annual essay prize to younger scholars (deadline 31 August).

The Viking Society for Northern Research - Has regular meetings, publishes Saga-Book, and offers small amounts of research funding. Most of the Society's extensive publications (including the journal Saga-Book) are now available online.
