Description

A talk by Professor Robert Mokaya, Professor of Chemistry, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement on diversity in the chemical sciences, followed by questions.

Available data shows that, for far too many people, there are still obstacles to studying and undertaking a career in the Chemical Sciences. Lack of a diverse and inclusive workforce in the Chemical Sciences is not only morally unacceptable but also limits what can be achieved in terms of creativity and innovation.

This talk will focus on levels of participation in the Chemical Sciences within UK HEIs from a student and staff perspective. Particular attention will be given to the participation for ethnic minority groups and the apparent lack of their progression from undergraduate students to postgraduate level and senior levels in academia. The speaker will share their experiences of having travelled that journey.
