Research Overview: Telomeres and telomere proteins in fission yeast
Telomeres are the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes. They perform key roles in protecting the genome from degradation and preventing inappropriate DNA damage responses. In mammalian cells, processes involving the telomeres are central to cellular ageing and the development of cancer. We are using fission yeast as a model system to study the functions of telomeres, focusing particularly on the proteins that interact with the telomere DNA.
