Success at student-led Midwife conference

On Wednesday 9 September 2015,  The Division of Midwifery held its inaugural student midwife conference entitled  'Childbirth and Fear: Is it inevitable?'

This conference was a student-led initiative, which was reported to be vibrant, very well organised and included:

  • Student midwives having the opportunity to hear eminent speakers from across midwifery practice and education. Speakers, these  included: Katherine Gutteridge Consultant Midwife, Anna Kent Specialist HIV Midwife, Denis Walsh Associate Professor in Midwifery
  • One of the most poignant speakers was a mother and a practising Clinical Psychologist, who shared her postnatal story of mental health and stigma
  • The launch of The  University of Nottingham Midwifery society. Cathy Warwick, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Midwives was the Keynote Speaker and launched the UON Midwifery Society

The Division of Midwifery would like to give a special thanks to student midwife Ana Gomez Thompson for her hard work in organising an excellent conference and Natalie Hawley Chambers, Midwifery Administrator for providing the administrative support.

The conference proved to be such a success that it is now to become an annual event!
