High Performance Computing

About Us

The High Performance Computing Facility at the University of Nottingham was borne out of a need to enable academics with new lines of research access to a substantial computing resource.

The first cluster was procured in 2004/5 via allocated funds from the Science Research Investment Fund round 2 (SRIF-2), and then in 2008/9 under SRIF-3 the facility was significantly modernised and extended. The facility represents a substantial financial and strategic commitment on behalf of the University to support the ever growing area of numerical research.

This University wide service, operated from within Information Services, is accessible to all staff, post-doctoral, and research students across all departments and faculties.

The facility is managed by a HPC manager and is supported by other members of staff from different teams and sections within Information Services. There is an oversight HPC Management Committee which meets at least once a term. It consists of members of staff from within IS and a number of academics.
