15 Jumpstart projects successful thanks to you

Thanks to 584 people like you, 15 projects have been successfully funded through our Jumpstart platform. From saving lives to bringing light to communities in Nigeria, your support is changing lives. Launched one year ago, our crowdfunding platform, Jumpstart, is helping student and staff projects get off the ground.

Here are just some of the amazing ideas that have been supported through Jumpstart so far. Thank you to everyone who has played their part in making these projects happen.

Vets in the community

Vets in the Community – successfully raised £3,063

Vets in the Community provide free veterinary care to pets belonging to homeless and vulnerably housed people in Nottingham. Support through Jumpstart has helped fund more vaccinations, micro-chipping and treatment for fleas, worms and minor ailments. Treatment is provided at clinic sessions run by students at the Vet School whilst under the supervision of experienced members of staff.

Liter of Light

Project Liter of Light – successfully raised £5,678

Since raising money through Jumpstart, the Nigerian Students Society are one step closer to bringing light to the impoverished community of Makoko in Lagos, Nigeria. The students have teamed up with an innovative organisation called ‘Liter of Light’ to teach local residents how to produce solar bulbs from waste plastic bottles. These can then be installed to provide light in their homes.

Community First Responders

Community First Responders – successfully raised £2,128

Thanks to Jumpstart supporters, the team have been able to purchase two new defibrillators to continue their lifesaving work. The group of around 60 trained student volunteers support the East Midlands Ambulance service to respond to high priority 999 calls, providing emergency care to patients in a variety of life threatening situations. The students, who each study a healthcare related course at the University, are also supplementing their own experience levels that will benefit the NHS in the future.
