Biography

I am a medical graduate (MBBS) from Calcutta University, India, and a post-graduate in Anatomy (MD) from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India. Although I started my career as a clinician and a surgeon (in the Surgery and Orthopaedics specialties), later I switched to academics due to personal reasons. I joined Nottingham University in 2009 as a PBL facilitator from University of Glasgow. Since then my role, duties, and responsibilities have changed a lot. At present, I work almost full time in the "Teaching & Learning family" at the Graduate Entry Medical (GEM) School in the Derby campus of Nottingham University as an Anatomy lecturer and a PBL facilitator.

My current job contract stipulates dual responsibilities in the GEM school, acting both as a PBL Facilitator and as an Anatomy lecturer to the postgraduate medical students of the GEM curriculum (A101) and the undergraduate students of the B.Sc. (MPT) course (B121). Moreover, I also teach Anatomy to the undergraduate MBChB Medical students (A100) of Nottingham University at the Medical School in Nottingham campus. Since last 8 years, I have also been responsible for the introductory Anatomy teaching sessions for the international students of Nottingham University (students from Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, etc.). Moreover, I also take an active role in teaching Anatomy for the different courses, held at the undergraduate medical school in Nottingham. Last but not the least, I am also involved in teaching Clinical Anatomy to the CP1 & CP2 students, and the junior doctors from Nottingham University, sitting for MRCS examinations in the Surgery & Orthopaedics specialties.

Thus, since last 9 years, I have been teaching Anatomy efficiently and effectively in Nottingham University at both the Derby and Nottingham campuses.Teaching is my passion and Anatomy is my love. Being a clinically qualified medical doctor with immense experience in the Surgical and Orthopaedics specialties, I am fond of sharing my knowledge of Clinical Anatomy to the GEM & MBChB students. Both the under-graduate and post-graduate medical students of Nottingham University seem to love my Anatomy teaching sessions very much as it is evident from my consistently very high and impressive SET scores with encouraging comments and numerous "THANK YOU" cards, which I have been receiving from the various cohorts of students from different curricula (A100, A101, and B121).

As part of my role, apart from facilitating in all the PBL sessions of all the 9 modules, taught in the GEM course, I am massively involved in teaching Anatomy to the GEM1 & GEM2 students in all of their 9 modules (both in terms of delivering formal lectures as well as small-group teachings in the form of Anatomy workshops, tutorials, etc). I furthered my teaching career by gaining the Associate Teachers' Programme (ATP) qualification and becoming an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Apart from extensively teaching Anatomy in the GEM & B.Sc. (MPT) curricula, some of my other important and notable responsibilities in the GEM School are as follows:

  • I am a Clinical Skills OSCE Examiner in GEM1 & GEM2 Summative examinations.
  • I am the Module Convenor of the GEM Endocrine (A12E1G) Module.
  • I am responsible for setting & marking GEM & B.Sc. Summative and Formative examinations questions.
  • I perform as a Project Supervisor of the final year B.Sc. (MPT) project students.
  • I act as the "PBL Contributor and Clinical Lead" of the GEM Module - 4 (Limbs & Back Module).
  • I immensely contributed in introducing and implementing "Clinical Imaging" in Anatomy curriculum of the GEM course. I took active role in developing Clinical Radiology teaching resources for GEM curriculum.
  • I hugely contributed to the development of B.Sc. (MPT) curriculum by redesigning the Anatomy workshop booklets, developing the Anatomy teaching resources, and organising B.Sc. (MPT) Anatomy workshops.
  • I also contributed towards setting up of the Anatomy lab and preparing Anatomy curriculum in the new Medical School at Lincoln.

Apart from delivering lectures, I teach Anatomy extensively in small group workshops of GEM & B.Sc. curricula - I am involved in teaching in all the Anatomy workshops of all the nine GEM1 & GEM2 Modules, which I have been delivering successfully since the last 8 years. I am also involved in delivering Anatomy teachings in the Anatomy workshops, tutorials & clinical-skills sessions of 5 B.Sc. (MPT) Modules.

Current Research

I currently work in the "Teaching & Learning" Family in the GEM School of Nottingham University. So my duties & responsibilities are not related to any research activities at present, although I am interested in the field of research, related to the topics of Anatomy and Medical Education. In future, if I get the the opportunity, I will try to be involved in the researches, concerned with these topics.

I presented my scientific paper in the Golden Jubilee Anatomy National Conference, organised by the Anatomical Society of India at M.R. Medical College, Karnataka, India in December, 2003.

My past research thesis is called "FOOT PRINT ANALYSIS AND ITS CORRELATION FOR VARIATIONS IN THE ARCHES OF THE FOOT". I submitted my research thesis to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka, India in September, 2004 in partial fulfillment of the regulations for my award of the "Doctor of Medicine" (MD) Degree in Anatomy.
