Current Specialties in the Clinical Academic Training Programme

The School of Medicine offers a variety of Academic Clinical Fellowships and Lectureships in areas of our research expertise, aligned to their relevant clinical specialties.

Our Academic Clinical Fellowships and Clinical Lectureships are advertised nationally, usually ahead of clinical recruitment in specialty. (See the NHS recruitment portal and the University's job site.)

Applications to the NIHR’s Integrated Clinical Academic Training Programme are made according to the NIHR’s Trainees Coordinating Centre timelines and are advertised nationally usually ahead of clinical recruitment in specialty.

NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowships

NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowships are available to start in 2018.

  • Anaesthetics
  • Clinical oncology
  • Clinical radiology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Geriatric medicine
  • Histopathology
  • Medical microbiology
  • Medical education (training in paediatrics, renal medicine or old age psychiatry)
  • Medical oncology
  • Old age psychiatry
  • Paediatrics
  • Public health medicine
  • Renal medicine
  • Respiratory medicine
  • Rheumatology

NIHR Clinical Lectureships

NIHR Academic Clinical Lectureships* are also available.

CL posts starting before 31 March 2018 in:

  • Clinical radiology
  • General surgery
  • Gastroenterology
  • Geriatric medicine
  • Medical oncology
  • Paediatrics
  • Respiratory medicine

Recruitment for our Clinical Lectureships will be posted on the University Vacancies page. 

Applicants for these posts must also complete the supplementary questions for prospective candidates and upload it with their online application. Applications will not be accepted without the completed questionnaire.
