Celebrating Science Diplomacy

The 2015 Midlands Newton Summit, hosted at The University of Nottingham, brings together researchers, diplomats, policymakers and partners from across the globe to celebrate the impact of UK science diplomacy.

The Summit is held in conjunction with the six Midlands Innovation Universities, with involvement and support from Royal Society, FCO, British Council and UUK International Academy of Medical Sciences among many others. The aim of this event is to bring together internationally acclaimed researchers and policy makers to speak about why the Newton Fund is in place, the countries and domains of research that the fund covers and  most importantly, why internationalisation and working with researchers from across the world is critical for the career of a researcher.

The Newton Fund is worth £75 million per year until 2019 and focuses on supporting student and researcher fellowships, mobility schemes and funding for joint research centres. Countries included in the fund are Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Egypt, India, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa and wider Africa, Thailand, Turkey Vietnam and The Philippines.  Researchers at all career stages are eligible for funding.

The day will feature a broad range of excellent speakers, masterclass sessions and an opportunity for researchers, businesses and policymakers to showcase the many stories of inspiration and excellence that have already emerged from the Newton Fund, and discuss the future of wider UK science diplomacy.

Please note that our Eventbrite page is being used for attendees to register their interest in attending the event only.  Confirmation emails will be sent out in due course.
