Biography

I qualified in Nottingham and then worked at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth and Plymouth University for ten years before returning to Nottingham.

Expertise Summary

My work is clinically focused with studies primarily aimed at long-term behaviour change in order to reduce healthcare associated infections. This programme of work has been developed in order to improve patient care and all of my research income, peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations impact on practice. For this reason, I concentrated on editing the Oxford University press book of clinical skills for two years, which is now being developed for its second edition. Within my doctoral study and subsequent research studies, I have experience of project management of a wide portfolio of research studies. I am an active member of the Centre for Healthcare Associated Infections at the University of Nottingham and have a track record of publications, conference presentations and grant income in this area. Collaborative work across academic schools at the university resulted in the development of the Glo-yo™ which is an educational toy. The Glo-yo™ is now in production with a business manufacturer, Ravencourt Ltd and was developed from research work aimed at increasing and sustaining the publics' hand hygiene compliance.
