More than 100 academics and researchers are involved in energy innovation as part of the Energy Technologies Research Institute (ETRI) at The University of Nottingham. This cuts across disciplines including science, physics, architecture, engineering, maths and social science. Find out more about current energy themes.

Gavin has over 20 years’ experience of undertaking research in collaborations with industry in the area of energy storage and hydrogen systems. He has found this a rewarding experience and as Director of the Energy Technologies Research Institute aims to facilitate engagement with the wider energy portfolio at the University.

Project Manager

Colette heads up the energy team, having previously worked in both the public and private sectors in contract, project and programme management. Colette’s roles have focused on economic development, environmental sustainability, regeneration and offshore renewables and she has extensive experience of working on EU funded projects.

TimSaunders

Tim Saunders
Business Development Officer

Tim has delivered sustainable housing projects and renewable energy systems from domestic to large scale, including solar, wind energy and anaerobic digestion projects for a range of clients. Working with businesses and consumers to provide energy advice. Tim has also successfully secured funding from grant providers and lenders for SMEs.

Sarah Windibank
Business Development Officer

Sarah brings with her a wealth of cross departmental experience from her time at the University. She has helped coordinate and deliver a number of projects in both the voluntary sector and at the University environment and is now one of the Business Development Officers for the Energy Innovation and Collaboration team.

MattLittle

Matthew Little
Technical Officer

Matthew is an electronic and electrical engineer who, since 2001, has focused on renewable energy systems.He has worked on a diverse range of projects including grid-connected and off-grid renewable energy systems, data-logging and monitoring systems, product design and embedded hardware.He has also run renewable energy technical training courses and workshops for a wide range of abilities.

GulcanSerdaroglu

Gulcan Serdaroglu
Technical Officer

Gulcan is a chemical engineer with an MSc degree in energy and environmental engineering. She studied for her PhD in hydrogen generation through water electrolysis at the University of Nottingham at the Centre for Doctoral Training in Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and their Applications.

Tom Pike
Project Manager

Tom provides strategic support and project management to ETRI in order to achieve its ambitious research and knowledge exchange targets and deliver its energy projects and initiatives. He has experience working in the low carbon field in a high-tech, research driven industry. Additionally, Tom has a PhD in hydrogen and fuel cells completed at the University of Birmingham, in collaboration with both the University of Nottingham and Loughborough University.
