Student voices

Student Voices

Students of the department have produced and contributed to a range of different publications over the years.

Their magazines have included academic articles, translations and discussion of news and current affairs, as well as pieces taking a more light-hearted look at life and events in the department.

In 1996, students wrote and filmed a documentary film about studying Slavonic Studies at Nottingham, as part of a transferrable skills training programme. The film was subsequently shown to prospective students on Open Days.

Slavonica 1968

The department published the first issue of its very own magazine, Slavonica, in May 1968.

Slavonica - Sarcophagus and Reports on Chernobyl

1992's Slavonica accompanied the production of Sarcophagus, featuring British and Soviet news coverage of the Chernobyl disaster.

Fontan 1996-7

In 1996, Alexandra Harrington and Rosemary Fasey co-edited Fontan, a periodical showcasing postgraduate research.

Fontan – Rachel Farmer on Vladimir Voinovich

Rachel Farmer describes the experience of meeting the subject of her doctoral research in person, the writer Vladimir Voinovich.

Шум 2014

The 2014 student magazine Шум (Noise) featured articles by both students and staff in English, Russian Serbian/Croatian and Slovene.
