Biography

I am currently Associate Professor of Geography and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy/AdvanceHE (SFHEA).

I first joined the School of Geography in 2006, before returning in 2011 and becoming a permanent member of the academic staff in 2014. Before I returned in 2011, I held Research Fellowships at the University of Lancaster and in the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) at the University of Newcastle. I have also held visiting Researcher positions at the University of Newcastle and Univerzita Karlova, Prague.

I completed my PhD in geography at Queen Mary, University of London and my BA in Geography at the University of Southampton.

Research Summary

I am a human geographer with particular thematic interests in professional work, elite mobilities, critical geoeconomics and the economic and social geographies of Central and Eastern Europe.

Selected Publications

I teach across the undergraduate curriculum at Nottingham focusing on human geography. I have contributed to the long-standing Geographical Field Course to Cumbria for over a decade and have supervised nearly 200 undergraduate dissertations to completion.

I have led a number of major innovations in undergraduate education and student experience over the past decade and completed 3 years as Director of Education and Stduent Experience in teh School in 2025.

In 2018 I was awarded Senior Fellowship status of the Higher Education Academy and am currently working toward achieving Principle Fellowship status.
