Biography

I am a Professor of Public Health in the School of Medicine. I am the Course Director for the Master of Public Health and Master of Public Health (Global Health) courses. I am a highly motivated public health educator with an interest in pedagogies to improve public health education. I am a Principle Fellow of Advance HE (formally HEA).

I am also an active public health researcher with an international focus on breast cancer inequalities, health promotion and health improvement interventions and social inequalities. I am an experienced health research methodologist, specialising in qualitative and mixed-methods public health research.

I work closely in collaboration with local communities to improve health inequalities from a grass-roots level through community engagement. I work with partnership organisations including Local Authority, Public Health England and the Environment Agency to develop inter-connected, collaborative research which benefits people locally.

I am also a Nottinghamshire primary school Chair of Governors and a Parish Counsellor.

• A mixed-methods feasibility study assessing the impact of prophylactic risk-reducing mastectomy and implant-based reconstruction on upper body function, quality of life and physical activity.
• Randomised controlled trial of a new relief inhaler in mild asthma.
• Breast Cancer and Black Women: which factors influence access to and provision of care.
• Breast health and black women living in the UK: a survey to understand factors influencing access to and provision of care for breast disease.
• Integrated environmental and health net gain: theory, principles and practice.
• Factors affecting GP decisions to refer young women with breast complaints.
• The psychological impacts of flooding.
