Information Services

Information Services (IS) provides a range of IT and library information services and support across the University’s UK and international campuses. Our innovative work has earned a national reputation for a number of areas, including:

  • eLearning
  • ePublishing
  • portal development

We have received international attention for our Web Campus in Second Life, a 3D virtual campus devoted to distance learning, understanding new technologies and making the University’s renowned work more accessible.

There are three divisions within the department:

  • Corporate and Customer Services
  • IT Systems
  • Research and Learning Resources (RLR)

These divisions are responsible for ensuring that around 40,000 staff and students have access to teaching, learning and research resources by:

  • providing the University’s IT infrastructure
  • acquiring, developing and supporting new and emerging technologies and systems, including e-learning
  • providing access to millions of electronic and printed resources across in 13 libraries across the University’s campuses
  • supporting staff and students through the IS helpline and disability support

The department is also responsible for a wide range of services, from the University’s Manuscripts and Special Collections and media production to the provision of computer rooms and audio visual equipment.
