Sharmila Thapa from Samida Women Development Forum, Nepal, will present to IAPS on 2 March.
All are welcome.
Over the past 20 years Nepal has passed several major laws and made a number of international commitments to addressing gender discrimination. Yet in practice, poverty, limited decision-making power, lack of access to education and health services, child marriage, and violence against women continue to plague the struggle for gender equality across the country. Sharmila Thapa is the founder and president of Samida Women Development Forum (SWDF), a non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to helping single women become empowered economically, politically, socially and culturally. On March 2nd, Sharmila Thapa and SWDF vice president Yenserj Gurung join Dr. Carole Spary and PhD Candidate Tricia Kehoe to discuss the current state of feminist activism and NGO work in Nepal, and their visions for its future.
