Abstract: "They never search the elves Jon!" was how, on the 9th Dec 2013, the Comedy Central channel's Daily Show parodied an Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) research project looking into identifying computer gamers from their online behaviour. We were a part of this, investigating users in the popular World of Warcraft game, hence the reference to 'elves'. This presentation will discuss that project, the rationale for it and show some of its results. We will then look at a Centre for Defence Enterprises project which aimed to determine how best to win hearts and minds in online channels such as social media. Again we will discuss the project and highlight some of its results and possible areas for further investigation.
