Description

"Dementia: A day in the life" exhibits a series of photographs taken in July 2018 at the day Centre “Il Nodo”, situated in the countryside at the feet of the Italian Pennines in the central Region of Abruzzo.

At “Il Nodo”, the artists witnessed and committed to portray all facets of life with dementia. Confident that the negative and positive feelings celebrated in the exhibition including frustration, melancholy, apathy, serenity, and joy are common to all individuals and that the audience will easily relate to our protagonists, the ultimate message that the artists convey is one of unity and connectedness among all human beings, beyond geographical distance and dementia.

The project stemmed from the research experience in the field of dementia social and health care of Alessandro Bosco and Claudio Di Lorito, who, during their doctoral studies at the University of Nottingham, had extensive contact with local residential homes and day centres for people with dementia. Academic research and extensive contact with the local community translated into a passion and desire to portray the daily experience of people with dementia in day centres through means more accessible to a wider audience than research dissemination outputs.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
