Description

Dr. Tony Collings, Principal Scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia

12.30pm (lunch) for 1pm (seminar)

The use of high power ultrasound in industry has always looked to be a promising area but this promise has not fully materialised. Our group at CSIRO have been working with high power ultrasound for a number of years and have concentrated their attention in 3 areas: soil remediation, recovery of iron oxide from bauxite waste and defoaming of liquids. Each of these is now ready for pilot plant or industrial trialling. In this seminar the underlying physics of ultrasound in these applications will be briefly discussed and some interesting examples of what has been achieved will be presented.
