Speaker: Professor Bob John, Head of the ASAP Research Group.
In the field of type-2 fuzzy logic, his work is widely recognised by the international fuzzy logic community as leading in the aspects of theoretical foundations, as well as practical applications.
This talk will introduce the audience to type-2 fuzzy logic and provide a brief history. Prof John will summarise his key theoretical developments that allow for novel representations and fast computation in type-2 fuzzy logic systems with various applications in decision support. Fuzzy sets have had significant success in control applications, but by their very definition are not particularly ‘fuzzy’ and struggle in applications that attempt to mimic human reasoning in decision support systems.
