Description

John Warnock, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman, Adobe Systems Incorporated, San Jose, California.

Abstract

Businesses focused on newspapers, magazines, books, films, and music are experiencing a wrenching transformation. As media moves to the Internet this transformation is both economically not viable for existing companies, and new companies. The media space needs new approaches and innovative business models to survive this transformation.

John Warnock is co-chairman of the Board of Directors of Adobe Systems, Inc., which he co-founded in 1982 with Charles Geschke. He was President of Adobe from 1982–1984 and its CEO from 1984–2000. He has pioneered new directions in computer graphics and in electronic document technologies, as exemplified by PostScript and PDF–two of the cornerstones of Adobe’s success. More generally, he has helped to bring about a revolution in the wider fields of publishing and visual communication. Prior to this seminar, on the morning of Tuesday 20th July 2010, John Warnock is to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of Nottingham, both to acknowledge his considerable technical and commercial achievements and also to celebrate Adobe’s 25-year association with the Document Engineering Group in the School of Computer Science .

Seminars generally last for about an hour, including time for questions at the end.
