Inaugural lecture of Professor Robert John

Abstract: This talk will look at how uncertain the world is, how as humans we deal with vagueness and the imprecision in science. Bob will provide an overview of fuzzy logic and how the approach helps in real decision support systems that exhibit these properties. He will discuss some of his research on type-2 fuzzy logic and that of his research group (Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning (ASAP)) in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham.

Chaired by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Chris Rudd
