BUCS Big Wednesday to return to Nottingham for the next two years

Monday, 07 October 2019

British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Big Wednesday - the pinnacle of the UK university sporting calendar - will be hosted by the University of Nottingham not just in 2020, but in 2021, too.

BUCS will play host to 14 sports, 52 fixtures, and over 100 teams, with thousands of spectators turning out to watch the best teams in the country compete for the Championship and Trophy titles. This year’s event will take place on Wednesday 25 March 2020.

In 2019, the University of Nottingham became the first ever university to host BUCS Big Wednesday two years in a row. It has now doubled that streak with BUCS returning for a record third and fourth year.

Amongst the University of Nottingham student teams competing will be six-times defending champions Men’s Table Tennis led by Gold Coast Commonwealth medalist David McBeath, and the Women’s Hockey squad with senior international players Esme Burge and Alex Malzer heading up their line-up.

Having delivered two incredible BUCS Big Wednesdays, we are delighted to be returning to the University of Nottingham for another two years.
Vince Mayne, Chief Executive Officer of BUCS

It brings together our community to celebrate the top level of university sport as well as providing invaluable opportunities for our students to volunteer at a major sporting event.”

The announcement follows a list of accolades for University of Nottingham Sport in the last twelve months, including being named 2019 Sports University of the Year by the Times and finishing runners up in the overall BUCS league points table in 2018/19.
