Members of the University and College Union (UCU) branch at the University of Nottingham have shared their intention to continue striking throughout the autumn semester.
We know that some students are experiencing disruption to scheduled teaching sessions as the university and UCU work together to resolve the ongoing dispute, and we’d like to acknowledge this and offer our sincere apologies.
Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to minimise the impact of industrial action on you wherever possible.
UCU has notified the university of its intention for its members to continue strike action on the following dates:
- Monday 10 November – Friday 14 November
- Monday 17 November – Friday 21 November
- Monday 24 November – Tuesday 25 November
- Monday 1 December – Friday 5 December
- Monday 8 December – Friday 12 December
You can complete this form to notify us of any disruption to your scheduled learning.
UCU are striking because the university cannot rule out potential compulsory redundancies as part of cost-saving measures.
Like many institutions across the sector, the University of Nottingham is facing financial pressures from rising operational costs. This means that we cannot afford to operate in the same way we have in the past, and we need to make some changes. Trade Union colleagues have stated that cuts are a choice and that they are avoidable, but this does not recognise the reality of the financial position universities currently face.
We are doing everything we can to reduce the risk of compulsory redundancies, and to minimise the impact of operational changes on staff and on your student experience. You can find out more about these changes in our latest update.
Once again, we’d like to offer our sincere apologies for this disruption and reassure you that we’re doing everything we can to work towards a resolution.
If you have any concerns about the impact the strikes are having on you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Support and Wellbeing team. They are here to support you during this time.
Remember that you can also reach out to your personal tutor, academic guide or supervisor if you are worried about the impact this is having on your studies or research.
