Digital and Technology Services are due to replace the university's network firewall, impacting services such as Wi-Fi in accommodation on campus and library access.
The work will take place between 8am and 8pm on Saturday 22 November and Sunday 23 November. Service will be restored after 8pm each day.
During this work you should expect intermittent outages with significant periods of downtime affecting both wired and wireless connectivity.
This essential work is part of the Next Generation Network upgrade and will ensure a more reliable, secure and high-performing IT network and Wi-Fi service.
What This Means for You
During the outage window, there will be extended periods when the following services are unavailable or disrupted on UK campuses:
- Eduroam Wi-Fi
- Wired network connections
- Uon_Halls Wi-Fi
- Desk phones (making and receiving calls)
- Card payments in catering outlets on campus
- Access to computer rooms and libraries
- VPN access (may also affect those off campus)
- Refuge phones in lifts - please do not use lifts during outages
Building access via ID cards will continue as normal.
If further work is required this will take place on Saturday 29 November and Sunday 30 November. This will be confirmed nearer to the time.
We apologise for the disruption and are grateful for your understanding.
Please direct any concerns or access requirements to nextgennetwork@nottingham.ac.uk.
