Nottinghamshire Police – Dispersal Orders

Wednesday, 24 March 2021
The university has been advised by Nottinghamshire Police that they will continue to use Dispersal Orders at the weekends in the Lenton, Arboretum and city centre areas of Nottingham.

A Dispersal Order gives Nottinghamshire Police the power to require anyone engaging in antisocial behaviour in public spaces to leave, and to arrest anyone who fails to comply.

We know that the vast majority of our students are good neighbours, do the right thing and follow the rules - and we will continue to support you in doing so.

Please remember that the ‘rule of six’ and outdoor gatherings (including gardens) are not permitted until Monday 29 March, and the ‘stay at home’ rule remains in force until then. If you are tempted to attend a gathering this weekend which exceeds the national restrictions, please be aware of the serious consequences of doing so, which may lead to arrest, fines or even a criminal record.

Chief Inspector Amy English, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for the Arboretum, Dunkirk & Lenton, has asked students to play their part in the following short video.

Chief Superintendent Rob Griffin, of Nottinghamshire Police, has told us: "Antisocial behaviour can have a dramatic impact on families who struggle to sleep, with children kept awake and disturbance to their work and general life. We will fully support people in the Arboretum, Lenton and city centre by taking firm action against those who have no respect for the impact that their behaviour has on their neighbours.”
