The honey comes from beehives located on university land. There are around 70 bee hives, each housing tens of thousands of honeybees, managed on the university’s behalf by professional bee farmer Parks Apiaries. The honey is bottled in its raw state, it’s simply filtered through a nylon mesh, so keeps its valuable enzymes with pollens.
There are two varieties of honey currently on sale. The flavour and colour of each reflect the different landscapes from which they come.
- The ‘King’s Meadow Campus’ honey is multi-floral, with bees foraging in the King’s Meadow local nature reserve, University Park and potentially the city centre and beyond as honeybees can travel several miles in search of food.
- Honeybees at university farmland ‘Bunny Park’ collect nectar from crops such as field bean, but also from trees such as horse chestnut, lime and hawthorn.
The honey is now on sale in the below campus outlets, priced £6:

The nature crisis - get involved
Nature is declining globally, with the UK one of the most nature-deprived countries in the world. At UoN we are actively creating and enhancing wild spaces to help our nature thrive. This year we have sown a new wildflower meadow, planted native trees and hedgerows, and created new habitats for wildlife that call our campuses home.
