Updated guidance on the use of calculators in exams

Tuesday, 23 November 2021
The guidance on the use of calculators for in-person exams has been updated for the current academic year (2021-22).

Candidates may use an electronic calculator in module examinations provided it is one of the models specified and has not been modified in any way. Devices with facilities for storing and receiving text, personal organisers, dictionaries, thesauruses, language translators and computers, and other devices capable of communicating directly with other similar devices are not permitted in examinations.

Further information can be viewed via the ‘Guide notes on the use of calculators in exams’ link on the Examinations webpage. The exact models included in this list will be reviewed annually, so the lists given here apply specifically to the current academic year.

Those sitting invigilated exams must use one of the models listed on the guide notes. If you have a calculator in your possession that is not listed, even if it is functionally equivalent, you will be reported for alleged academic misconduct.

If you have questions about whether your calculator will be permitted for your particular exam, please contact your school or module convenor before the date of your exam.
