SEAtS

Attendance lecture

As part of our commitment to support you in completing your studies, we are introducing a new engagement management platform - SEAtS. SEAtS allows you to register your attendance at centrally timetabled teaching activities as well as log your engagement with Moodle and Echo.

This will be implemented from March 2024 and will initially be piloted within the following schools:

  • Chemical and Environmental Engineering (year one)
  • Foundation Arts
  • Law
  • Midwifery
  • Pharmacy

What if I study modules outside of the pilot school?

You will continue to use the existing attendance registration process for that school/department. This will then pull through into the new SEAtS system. However, this may take a day or two to show in the SEAtS app so don’t worry if it doesn't show up straight away. If your attendance doesn't show up after a couple of days, please contact student engagement and attendance project team and they will assist.

Download the app

To use the SEAtS system, you will need to download the app. It’s available for iOS and Android devices. Please download the app before your classes begin so it is ready to use right away.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can log in using your university username and password.

How does it work?

QR code

For teaching activities on campus, attendance can be registered via the SEAtS app. To do this, please follow the below steps:

  1. Tap the calendar icon which will lead you to ‘Current events’
  2. Tap ‘Check in’
  3. Your camera will open in the scanning viewfinder
  4. Scan the QR code (if your phone is unable to scan the QR code, don’t worry; your lecturer will provide you with a one-time check-in code instead)

You may only scan attendance for yourself. Fraudulent scanning of QR codes falls under section 8.3 of the Code of Discipline for Students and will result in disciplinary action.

Bluetooth Beacons

Alternatively, some lecture rooms will be trialling Bluetooth beacons. Where a Bluetooth beacon is being used, the app connects to Bluetooth beacons in teaching spaces. If your Bluetooth is turned off, the app will ask you to turn it on before you can check in. You would then follow the below steps:

  1. Tap the calendar icon which will lead you to ‘Current events’
  2. Tap ‘Check in’
  3. Your device will then scan for the available Bluetooth Beacon. If Bluetooth has been disabled, a warning will be displayed to inform you to enable this within your device settings. You will then need to repeat steps 1 and 2
  4. Finally, you will be notified if you have successfully checked in

If, for any reason, you are unable to register your attendance using SEAtS, please speak to the member of staff leading your session. They will be able to update your attendance directly in the system.
