Managing our Digital Services Portfolio


Agile delivery of quality projects, programmes and products


Service Design lead the effective management and delivery of the global project and programme portfolio for digital services, ensuring that new technology solutions are customer centric, well designed and built to high quality standards.

The team are also responsible for ensuring that transition of projects into service is smooth, effective and delivers tangible benefits for the organisation. 



Service Design Team 


Partnering and Innovation

The Partnering & Innovation team undertake stakeholder engagement to determine, shape and prioritise demand. It is also concerned with user uptake and adoption of services to ensure they deliver value and benefits.  


Special Projects

Our Special Projects function consists of dedicated, specialist Product Teams who work closely with UoN business stakeholders to deliver large programmes of change, including Campus Solutions.


Delivery Assurance

The Delivery Assurance function within Service Design provides support and coaching, removes barriers that prevent successful project and programme delivery and provides overarching oversight. 



PMO and Project Management

The global PMO supports project and programme reporting and is a centre of excellence for process and governance. Our Project Management team lead on the delivery of strategic digital and technology projects.


Analysis and Business Change

The Analysis and Business Change team ensures that requirements for system and process change are documented and assessed in alignment with University strategy from initial concept to implementation.


UX and Service Design

The User Experience and Service Design  team supports business partners and peers by generating new and useful customer insights. The team employ a variety of face to face and remote methods to learn about our users.



Solution Design

Solution Design is a centre of excellence that is responsible for the design of core infrastructure and application services and which also identifies opportunities to apply new features and technologies.


Product Centre

The Product Centre consists of Application Development, which provides end-to end lifecycle support for software products, and Test, which leads testing activities to support technology change.


Digital Research Service

The Digital Research Service provide data-driven research and innovation within academia and industry, ranging from small proof-of-concept studies to large national data infrastructure projects.



Meet the Team


The Service Design function is overseen by Director and Deputy CDO Duncan Young.

This cross functional team provides the engagement, demand management, uptake and adoption, business analysis, solution design, user experience, software engineering, digital research service, programme and project management, implementation, testing and delivery of solutions and services.
