Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering
Dr Christopher Wood is a member of the Buildings, Energy & Environment Research Group. He has a wide interest in the areas of building physics, building services and energy efficient technologies and has been working in this field for over 12 years. His research field ranges from heat transfer and storage, to building air tightness, through to control technologies. He has a strong belief in collaboration, both in the industrial sense but also in terms of cross disciplinary within academia. His approach has been successful in bringing new mathematical techniques into areas of heat transfer relevant to the built environment. Industrial collaboration has been at the centre of his research history, with extensive experience of working with companies such as Roger Bullivant Ltd ,EOn Plc, Saint Gobain Plc amongst many others. One of the longer term collaborations has been with Build Test Solutions Ltd, and in this role he has led the research and development of the novel air-tightness testing device, PULSE, which has now reached commercialisation and approval as a test method under UK building regulations.
Dr Wood is course director for the undergraduate Architectural Environment Engineering programmes. He is also the lead of the year 3 Architectural Engineering Design module. This module is group work based and investigates building performance and mechanical services design for a building retrofit.
