Non-medical prescribing courses (V300)
Our non-medical prescribing courses are designed for nurses, midwives, advanced clinical practitioners and the allied health professions. Study a dual award of independent and supplementary prescribing.
Overview
The non-medical prescribing courses are taught entirely online, offering you the flexibility to study from anywhere in the UK and supporting you to manage your learning alongside your work and other commitments. The courses are designed to develop your interest, accelerate your career, salary progression and employability, and help enhance the performance of your organisation.
You will access a dynamic and supportive online environment that promotes valuable professional networks of non-medical prescribers with a possible pathway onto our MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) or our Advanced Clinical Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship.
You will be taught and assessed in both forms of prescribing regardless of clinical need. During the course you will learn about:
- Consultation and decision making
- Psychology of prescribing and influencing factors
- Prescribing in a team context
- General principles of pharmacology and therapeutics
- Principles of patient monitoring
- Evidence based practice
- Legal, policy, professional and ethical aspects
- Prescribing in a public health context

Available to study at level 3 or level 4; (prescribing for paramedics is available at level 4 only). Please note that dietitians are currently only permitted to supplementary prescribe.
