Summary

So we can see that in this age range, that many of the foundations for social development are formed. As the child develops a moral framework and also develops prosocial behaviour, this enables them to begin to explore and form meaningful friendships within their peer groups.

The child is also exploring and learning about gender roles and about their place within society.

It has been acknowledged throughout that the social development of this age group can have far reaching consequences into later childhood and even adulthood.
