14. ADHD risks

ADHD is associated with a considerable number of negative outcomes. These outcomes can be related to ADHD symptoms directly (for example, inattention and impulsivity may seriously impact driving behaviour). In other cases an impairment may develop from ADHD symptoms (for example, impulsivity may lead to other risky behaviours which in turn lead to higher accidents rates). Individuals with untreated or undiagnosed ADHD often self-medicate using unsafe substances.
