2. Cognitive skills

Cognitive skills are the group of thinking skills which allow us to mentally process information, reason, remember and learn. These include IQ, processing speed, working memory and hand-eye coordination. Each of the following sections will define and describe these cognitive skills in more detail and explain how each may be affected by preterm birth. Difficulties with cognitive skills following preterm birth are much more common than physical disabilities.
