Biography

James has a decade of experience as a Learning Technologist. His appetite for what makes effective learning has grown immensely and he recently became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2017) to cement his dedication to all aspects of teaching and learning. Also in his role at the University of Nottingham, he has received a Lord Dearing Award and Vice Chancellor Achievement Award, was runner-up for a Guardian University Award and runner-up in the Association for Learning Technology's Learning Technologist (Team) of the Year Award; recognition for work relating to various digital learning innovations.

James is very committed to helping learners achieve the best possible experience across multiple platforms and environments. This includes bespoke design and development of digital resources more commonly referred to in the institution as reusable learning objects (RLOs). His focus is always on pedagogy, sharing informed best practice and advising on the appropriate use of technology. He stresses how important it is, in this day and age, that learners can access and obtain knowledge in the most efficient and personable way.

In April 2020, James commenced a secondment opportunity, as a Software Research Developer, which involves developing software applications and resources for several Erasmus+ projects. This is a fixed-term secondment until 30th June 2022 after which, unless the opportunity is extended, James will return to his substantiative role as Learning Technologist.
