Co-morbidities

Co-morbidities, which are common in older people have an additional effect. These include poor vision or hearing, physical disabilities such as mobility and balance, problem sleeping and conditions causing pain, constipation or urinary symptoms.
In addition, many people with dementia in hospital have delirium, which makes cognition worse and may be associated with sleep disturbance, restlessness, emotions such as anxiety and in some cases delusions or hallucinations.
