COVID-19 Education for African Students
4. Why should I wear a mask?
Masks are strongly recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other organisations as:
- there is evidence from laboratory studies and from real world studies that masks are effective in reducing the transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19
- reusable cloth face masks are widely available
- the risks from transmission via contaminated masks are much less than the spread via breathing, coughing and talking
- people want to wear masks because it helps them to protect the people they care for and the people who care for them.
