Human Rights Law Centre

Human Rights Conference

Held during the spring, the Human Rights Conference highlights contemporary challenges within the field of human rights law, selected by the International Human Rights Law LLM cohort.

The Human Rights Law Centre (HRLC) hosted the first conference, then the Student Human Rights Conference, at the University of Nottingham in 1999.

Since its inaugural year, the Human Rights Conference has been organised each spring by University of Nottingham Law students with support from the Human Rights Law Centre, giving undergraduates and postgraduates a fantastic opportunity to design and deliver a conference on a contemporary human rights theme for students across Europe.

Each year, our LLM class in Human Rights Law selects the conference's theme, focusing on a current challenge facing the practice of human rights law. The conference is then organised and promoted by a student committee with the support of HRLC.

The conference annually attracts over 100 attendees who come from across the UK and Europe to take part in thoughtful discussion and lively debate led by national and international experts, resident and visiting students.
