Today HRLC Researcher, Laura Wills, joined colleagues from Scholars At Risk (SAR) at the United Nations in Geneva to attend the Pre-Session for the Universal Period Review (UPR) of Iran.

Over the past academic year, HRLC has been working with SAR on issues relating to academic freedom in Iran with the support of our Student Assistants. In addition to the campaign to #FreeAhmadReza, HRLC supervised students in the co-drafting of SAR’s submission to the third cycle of Iran’s UPR. The pre-session brought together civil society actors and country missions to the UN to discuss the human rights situation in Iran.

Going into our third year of collaboration with SAR, HRLC is pleased to have had the opportunity to bring our students work to the international stage and to develop this opportunity for our students further.
