Reiner Grundmann has signed a book contract with Routledge USA for his monograph on expertise. It will develop a theoretical framework for the understanding of the multi-faceted nature of expertise in modern societies. It will also present four case studies, on the IPCC, the legal and medical professions, and journalism.
Current debates about experts and expertise are often polarized. Expertise is blindly defended or denigrated. This book makes the case that we need better conceptual understanding, and specific empirical investigations in order to avoid confusion and false generalisations.
