During this seminar, experts drawn from different world regions will explore the prospects for future generations' rights and international inter-generational justice following the recently held UN Summit of the Future and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development's latest report on "Right to development of children and future generations". They will explore questions including: to what extent do the Pact/Declaration move forward protection of future generations' right in terms of international human rights law and international law more generally? How can the progress made at the Summit be embedded in rights-related decision-making processes at international and national levels? What is left to be done?

During this event, convened over two panels, international legal scholars and human rights lawyers will address: (1) the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on the Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem; (2) the South Africa v. Israel case before the ICJ; and (3) Nicaragua v. Germany. They will discuss what we might expect from the ICJ, and other international and domestic courts, going forward.
