Nottingham graduates' highly popular with leading law firms

For the past nine years, Chambers Student, the leading student guide to the legal profession, has been trying to identify the universities from which leading law firms most commonly recruit. Based on interviews with thousands of trainee solicitors at 139 law firms which represent what it calls "the most competitive end of the market", Chambers has identified 107 universities from which those firms have recruited and produced the following top ten:

  1. Oxford
  2. Cambridge
  3. Durham
  4. Bristol
  5. Exeter
  6. Nottingham
  7. Warwick
  8. King's College London
  9. Birmingham
  10. Manchester

The data also show that Nottingham graduates are sought after by different types of firms. For example, they place 9th among City Law Firms, and third among national and regional firms. This follows recent figures from the Department for Employment which show that the School of Law at Nottingham produces some of the most highly-paid law graduates in the UK, based on median salaries of law graduates five years after graduation.

Professor Peter Cartwright, Director of Education and Deputy Head of the School of Law said: "the Chambers study rightly concludes that 'the law is demanding, intellectually rigorous and needs capable graduates'. We are delighted that leading firms recognise the intellectual rigour of our degrees and very proud that they appreciate the capability of our graduates."
