Dr Ozlem Ulgen, Associate Professor in Law and an Expert Member of IEEE Standards Working Group P7007 Ontological Standard for Ethically Driven Robotics and Automation Systems, who for several years have been drafting the first global standard setting out legal principles and ethical values governing the design and development of autonomous intelligent systems
On 3 September 2021, it was announced by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) (the world’s oldest technical standard setting body) that the P7007 Working Group has been chosen as the recipient of the 2021 IEEE-SA Emerging Technology Award “for supporting the development of an innovative ontological standard on the ethics of artificial intelligence.” This is highly prestigious and a huge honour in recognition of the dedicated and challenging work undertaken by WG Expert Members. I’m absolutely thrilled and delighted that our work is being recognised as significant for the advancement of AI ethics!
