Professor Derclaye speaks at first EUIPO copyright conference

The EU Intellectual Property Office in Alicante, Spain launched its Copyright Knowledge Centre on 20-21 November 2025 with a conference on copyright titled "Navigating Copyright Together in an Evolving Digital Landscape".

Representatives of the EU Commission, members of the European Parliament, of national IP offices and the World intellectual property organisation, academics and artists were speaking about various aspects of copyright including digitisation, AI and enforcement. There were also artists' performances insterspersed in the proceedings and at the lunch and evening reception on 20 November, and a mural was inaugurated on 21 November.

Professor Derclaye was tasked to give an overview of IP overlaps with some examples of the problems they can pose. Ann Becker, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Video Games Europe, then presented the particular case of the video games sector which relies on many IP rights. The conference was attended by over 500 people with 1000 joining online.
