Biography

Professor Claire Stewart is the Dean and Head of the School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham and a Professor in Medical Education and Assessment. This means that she is the head of the school and ultimately responsible for all elements of the School's activity.

Claire is a "people" and "systems" person, eager that systems are aligned to ensure all stakeholders can maximize their potential. Claire is an early adopter and innovator by nature. Claire is a keen medical educationalist with a 20-year undergraduate and postgraduate medical education background, specializing in assessment.

Claire is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators. As well as her role in Nottingham, Claire holds regional and national positions with the General Medical Council, Medical Schools Council and Health Education England. She volunteers as an international Mentor for the Royal College of General Practitioners, voluntarily mentoring primary care educators in India.

Claire continues to work clinically as a General Practitioner and has a generalist approach to Medicine. Claire is passionate about patient-centred care and holds excellent communication skills core to her clinical practice.

Claire is an expert in Medical Education and in particular e-assessment, longitudinal assessments and strategies to improve the reliability and student experience in assessment.
