Hugh has been working in clinical trials for over 20 years. Originally starting in data entry he quickly progressed through the various roles and has been a Senior Trial Manager for over 12 years, working at a number of academic clinical trials units.
Hugh spent the first 14 years of his career in clinical trials solely in the field of oncology. During this time he worked on CTIMPs, non-CTIMPS, surgical trials, single-centre studies, multi-centre studies, UK-based, international and global studies. He also worked in both adult and paediatric trials, and was a Team Leader in paediatric oncology trials for a number of years, leading a team of 22 staff covering approximately 50 live studies.
In more recent times Hugh has broadened his range of experience into other disease groups including vascular, renal, auditory, App-based research and numerous surgical trials within sub-specialities.
He has a particular interest in the operational management of trials.
I have taught on a number of modules at the University of Birmingham primarily around clinical trials and research methodology but also including MBChB and a number of public engagement events.
