Description
Event poster for Dr Eleanor Wilson's lecture on 20 years of early careers: Finding a research career path
Eleanor Wilson is a researcher in the Nottingham Centre for the Advancement of Research in supportive, palliative, and End of life care (NCARE) with a background in Medical Social Anthropology. She has worked on a range of projects focusing on palliative and end of life care investigating patient and family experiences of illness, staff roles and service evaluations. A key element of Eleanor’s work focuses on the provision of care for those affected by neurological conditions. She has recently been awarded a University of Nottingham Anne McLaren Research Fellowship. The Fellowship involves a study to explore experiences of decision making about the continuation or withdrawal of home mechanical ventilation used by those with Motor Neurone Disease at the end of life. This stems from her initial PhD work that explored living with the neurodegenerative condition, Huntington’s disease, and previous studies to investigate provision of care in the home environment, including the management of medications and equipment. This presentation illustrates the development of Eleanor career to independent researcher by sharing some of the qualitative studies on which she has worked. These will focus on perspectives of end of life, decisions making -particularly when capacity may be an issue, anticipatory prescribing, and the provision of care in the home environment.
