Drug-target interactions

The same is true regarding the interaction of a drug with its target. The three-dimensional shape of the drug molecule acts like the key and must fit exactly into the structure of the target, the lock, in order to activate it. Therefore, just like locks and their keys, the interactions between drugs and their targets are highly specific and based on physical shape interactions.
